As shown in the figure above, any cue ball position between B and C will be a thin shot with respect to a straight shot A. One can see there will be several shots in between B and C that will fall into a thin shot. Cut out portions in shot positions between B and C are just hidden or not seen part of the object ball with respect to a full hit or straight in shot.
